N22 service area

Wood Green High Road is one of the busiest shopping streets in north London and it has almost no slack in it. Shopping City sits on top of the middle of it with multi-storey parking above.

Multi-storey ramps here are tight and steeply cambered, and cars come out of them with fresh kerb marks on the nearside. That is the single most common thing we see in this district.

The other half of N22 climbs. Alexandra Park and the roads up to the Palace are on a proper gradient with the park at the top, and the car parks up there are on a slope in every direction. We chock and use boards rather than trusting a handbrake on a hill.

Bowes Park and Noel Park are terraced grid streets — narrow, parked solid, and the work happens at the kerb.

Parked on a hill

Leave it in gear, or in park, with the handbrake on and the front wheels turned into the kerb before anyone jacks anything. We bring chocks and we use them. If the slope is severe enough that we are not happy, we will say so and move the vehicle first.

N22: give us the road and the tyre size

Call and tell us where the vehicle is standing and what is on the sidewall. If the size has gone with the tyre, the make, model and year will do. We confirm what we are bringing before the van moves.
