EN5 service area
The A1000 climbs from Whetstone to the top of Barnet Hill and does not level out until it is past Hadley Green. That gradient is the single most useful thing to know about EN5.
Everything on the ridge — the High Street, The Spires, Underhill, the roads either side of Barnet Hospital — is Victorian street layout with parked cars on both sides and a lot of tight kerbing. Kerbed alloys and sidewall pinches are ordinary here, and so are wheels that have been running under-inflated for weeks because the driver only does short journeys.
West of the town the ground changes completely. Arkley, Barnet Gate and Dyrham Park are lane country, with Galley Lane and Rowley Lane running between hedgerows onto the A1 at Stirling Corner. Fast, unlit, and littered after any windy night.
Barnet is a straight run from base along the Great North Road, so this is one of the districts where we rarely have to ask anyone to wait on a decision.

Barnet Hill and a soft tyre
A tyre losing air slowly is worse on a long descent than on the flat, because the heat has somewhere to build. If the warning light came on at the top of the hill, stop at the bottom rather than carrying on through the town. Tell us the road name and we will work from where the car actually is.
EN5: give us the road and the tyre size
Call and tell us where the vehicle is standing and what is on the sidewall. If the size has gone with the tyre, the make, model and year will do. We confirm what we are bringing before the van moves.
