N12 service area

Tally Ho Corner sets the character of N12. Five roads meet, buses turn across each other, and the High Road is bus lane and loading bay for most of its length.

The recurring job here is a tyre that has been kerbed against a bus stop build-out. Those build-outs sit proud of the normal kerb line and drivers pulling in to let a bus past catch them without feeling much. The result is a scuffed sidewall that looks cosmetic and is not always.

Great North Leisure Park and the hospital are the two places where cars sit long enough for a slow puncture to finish the job. Both have parking with room to work, which makes them straightforward calls.

Woodside Park is quieter residential on the other side of the line, and the streets there are wide enough to work at the kerb without blocking anything.

Scuffed sidewall — cosmetic or not?

Surface scuffing that has removed the raised lettering but no rubber below it is cosmetic. A gouge you can catch a fingernail in, a bulge, or any point where the woven cord is visible means the tyre is scrap. Bulges in particular are not repairable and are a failure waiting for a fast road.

N12: give us the road and the tyre size

Call and tell us where the vehicle is standing and what is on the sidewall. If the size has gone with the tyre, the make, model and year will do. We confirm what we are bringing before the van moves.
